Department Responsibilities:

The Legislative Services Department serves the City of Chilliwack in the statutory function traditionally known as the "City Clerks Department".  Legislative Services also provides most internal services to all other departments within the City.

In addition to those listed above, this department is also responsible for records management, risk management and administrative support services.

Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act of BC

The provisions of the Act is administered by the Legislative Services Department. 

BC’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act was established to make public bodies more accountable and transparent to the public and to protect personal privacy.

Any persons who makes a request has a right of access to any 'record' (with certain exceptions) in the custody or under the control of a public body. This includes records containing your own personal information. If you are requesting personal information on behalf of another person, you are required to obtain their consent and provide us with their signed consent with your Freedom of Information  (FOI) request.

All Freedom of Information requests are to be accompanied with a $10.00 non-refundable application fee. This fee is required prior to the processing of any request.

ROUTINE RELEASE REQUESTS VS FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUESTS

An applicant may start by making an informal request for routinely releasable information. To do this, please contact the relevant department directly that may have the information you seek.

If there are no exceptions to disclosure, the records and information may be released as a routine request for information. Information provided through routine channels includes answers to general questions related to departmental and governmental operations.

Bylaw Adjudication

The Upper Fraser Valley Bylaw Adjudication System is authorized by the Province of BC to operate as a municipal bylaw court for resolving disputes in bylaw enforcement matters for these five local governments.

Clerks

The primary function of the City Clerks Department is supporting the legislative matters and decisions of Council, including: Council meeting agendas, City bylaws, contracts and agreements, property management; the construction/maintenance of civic buildings; and, preparation for local government elections.
