Don McKellar’s English remake of the 2004 Quebec hit takes place, this time, in Newfoundland. The villagers must secure a fulltime doctor and go to extreme measures to convince him to stay. Director: Don McKellar. Stars: Brendan Gleeson, Taylor Kitsch, Gordon Pinset and Liane Balaban. OCT 1 – The Railway Man Australia/ UK – Drama/ Biography [18A] 116 min. The true story of a British soldier who endured gruelling conditions as a forced labourer on “Death Railway” during WWII. Director: Jonathan Teplitzky. Stars: Colin Firth, Nicole Kidman and Stellan Skarsgard. OCT 8 – Magic in the Moonlight USA – Comedy/ Romance [14A] 109 min. A wealthy middle aged Englishman visits the Riviera in order to debunk a supposed “spiritual medium”. Personal & professional complications ensue. Director: Woody Allen. Stars: Emma Stone, Colin Firth and Marcia Gay Harden. OCT 15 – Land Ho! Iceland/ USA – Comedy/ Adventure [18A] 95 min. Two ex-brothers-in-law travel across Iceland hoping to escape the monotony of their everyday lives and get their groove back. Director: Aaron Katz and Martha Stephens. Stars: Paul Eenhoorn, Earl Lynn Nelson and Karrie Crouse. OCT 22 – Calvary Ireland/ UK – Drama [18A] 100 min. A parish priest, despite receiving an oral death threat, continues to comfort his unhappy church members and argue for the value of the church, in this sometimes violent, yet rich, character drama. Director: John Michael McDonagh. Stars: Brendan Gleeson, Chris O’Dowd and Kelly Reilly. OCT 29 – Boyhood USA – Drama [18A] 163 min. This coming of age movie follows one actor over the course of 12 years from boyhood to college. Premiered at 2014 Sundance Film Festival. Director: Richard Linklater. Stars: Ellar Coltrane, Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke. Celebrating our 15th Anniversary! Join us before the Sept. 24 film from 5:30 – 6:30pm for a special Opening Gala featuring live music, snacks, door prizes, and a no-host bar. Tickets: $5 per person.
